about
costars is a new faux celebrity community developed to foster creative ideas and organic drama. celebrity and fame are messy. from the ups and downs of media perception to oscar wins and box office flops, we want our community to be a safe place to write it all.

while we are encouraging drama, we remind everyone to keep a distinct line between ic and ooc feelings. this is a writing hobby, and we want people to feel safe to bring in controversial or flawed characters. ooc harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.

regarding covid-19: as the world begins to reopen for filming, we thought this would be the perfect time to launch a new faux community. we will be acknowledging the previous halt to the entertainment business, continued delay of tours, and the new protocols in place as filming resumes, but costars will be taking place in a world where small gatherings and restaurant/business openings are universally allowed. we want to walk the fine line between reality while still leaving room for you to have characters meet and interact in person within group settings.

how to join
in order to apply, you will need to have the following:
an in character username
a screened post including all credits or other claims for your character and basic information about their history or media perception
an in character friends only
examples submitted to our dropbox here. please include two threads and two update examples
if your application has been deleted during adds, you have been rejected. if the rejection was based off of a credits or pb issue, we will contact you regarding the issue. please understand if we have not contacted you, we do not feel you would be a good fit for the community. for now, we will be capping members at 2 characters each.

activity
after you have been accepted, you will have 72 hours to post an intro in our general community. please be sure to reply to the comments, as we'll otherwise be forced to assume you're doa and you will be removed for inactivity.

members must complete two activity requirements a month:
1) a writing based update in your journal
these updates can include narratives, interviews, in-person journal updates, etc. we will also accept any html or visual updates as long as they include some form of a writing component. we encourage creativity here so while we will not be enforcing a word count we do ask you to use your best judgment.

2) a post in one of our subcommunities
we are hoping for a close-knit community where drama is encouraged and celebrated. these subcomms are a great opportunity to branch out and create organic interactions beyond your typical updates and character's friend circles.
screens: for all general posts including intros, random questions, lyrics, etc.

subtweeting: for any public social media posts, including one-off twitter posts, instagram, snapchat, etc. celebrities are often falling victim to 3am tweets or an improperly conveyed thought and we definitely want to encourage any messy drama that you can think of! community-wide social media challenges will also be posted within this subcomm. posts do not have to be from your character's POV and can include stan twitter posts, trending hashtags, or fan run instagram accounts. in order for a post to count towards your activity, a majority of the comments must be responded to.

hiatuses/extensions: members can comment here for any hiatus or extension requests. hiatuses will have a maximum of 2 weeks and you may not request an extension two months in a row.

removals: removals will be completed with the first set of adds of each month. those who have been removed for inactivity, must have an update completed before reapplying to the community.

credits
before you begin to build your character's credits, please read through the following guidelines. we encourage as much creativity as possible and therefore don't want to have too many rules limiting credit choices, but please ask any credit-related questions here.
while we're not strict, try to follow the five-year age rule with your pbs for their claims. use your best judgment when picking appropriate pbs for roles. whitewashing will be not be accepted under any circumstances and will be grounds for immediate rejection.
you can only claim film and behind-the-scenes credits that are either listed on IMDB or have had casting announcements from a credible source (i.e. deadline, variety).
we recommend choosing a variety of inspirations when selecting film credits to avoid borrowing too heavily from one actor. there shouldn't be any overlap with your character's credits and pb's real-life credits (i.e. within the same project or same cinematic universe), though we'll allow some exceptions for smaller roles.
similarly, please don't front load your credits with awards. we know this can happen in real life, but we'd like to keep this limited.
director, model, author, athlete, musician, etc. claims function as an entire body of work to keep styles consistent and avoid confusion. please keep schedule demands in mind if you choose credits from multiple lines of work.
be creative! develop new backstories for songs or screenplays and new casting stories for acting roles. create new career trajectories and downfalls. we want to establish an environment where people don't feel they have to play it safe, as fame can be very messy.
